New research, role-level analysis, and AI market intelligence. No spam.
Tech layoffs have already exceeded 73,000 in 2026, with Meta, Snap, Oracle, and Atlassian explicitly citing AI and automation as the primary drivers. These are not restructurings dressed up in AI language — they are direct workforce reductions in software development, data analysis, and technical support.
The capability research explains why. A new ArXiv paper on agentic software engineering describes AI systems moving beyond code generation into multi-step planning and execution — the work of mid-level engineers, not junior ones. Separately, the LLM4C2Rust system now automates transpilation of unsafe C/C++ code into memory-safe Rust, a task that previously required specialised engineers working on legacy modernisation. Mozilla used Anthropic's Mythos to find and fix 271 bugs in Firefox. OpenAI's Codex now controls other applications, remembers user preferences, and handles background tasks autonomously — and has reached 4 million weekly active users, with enterprise rollouts underway through Accenture, PwC, and Infosys.
The pattern is consistent: roles defined by routine implementation, maintenance tasks, or quality assurance iteration are being automated at the tool level.
Autonomous SOC agents reached 90+ organisations in 2025 with write access to critical infrastructure. Adversaries have already compromised these tools through prompt injection to steal credentials and execute unauthorised actions. A VentureBeat survey confirms most enterprises cannot stop what it categorises as stage-three AI agent threats, with cited breaches at Meta and supply-chain compromises via LiteLLM.
Meanwhile, Anthropic's Mythos — now in active use at the NSA despite Pentagon supply-chain concerns — demonstrates advanced vulnerability detection capabilities serious enough that security researchers are alarmed by the potential for mass criminal exploitation of newly disclosed flaws. Chain-of-thought AI approaches are also showing capability to automate code deobfuscation, a workflow that currently requires days to months of manual work from security specialists.
Kimi K2.6 extended agent run times from minutes to days, which exposes a separate problem: enterprise orchestration infrastructure was not built for sustained autonomous execution cycles. Engineers are now required to rearchitect the systems they built.
IQiyi, China's dominant streaming platform, has stated that AI will generate the majority of its films and shows within five years, and has launched the Nadou Pro toolkit to automate production across all stages. Adobe, NVIDIA, and WPP jointly deployed agentic AI to automate creative production and decision-making across enterprise marketing. AWS Marketing reduced specific content publishing workflows from hours to minutes using Amazon Bedrock.
Anthropic's Claude Design now generates polished prototypes and marketing collateral from conversational prompts, targeting workflows currently owned by junior designers. Google's Deep Research and Deep Research Max agents combine public web search with private enterprise data to automate analyst research end-to-end.
These are not pilot programmes. They are named products with named enterprise customers.
